just looked at the thing and first that came to my mind is in the Trump meme - a garbage incinerator. Might also work as a prison, but not enough light for prisoners I think.
The cotrast between this and how Obama handled things when he was actually president is pretty striking. Like he wouldn't even let them modify the tennis court without making sure it was done respectfully, and now we're looking at this brutalist tower that's costing a billion dollars and seems to be tied up in all kinds of shady funding arrangements. The comparisons to the Death Star and the Ministry of Truth are harsh but honestly not that far off when you look at the actual desing. What gets me is that presidential libraries are supposed to reflect something about the person's legacy and values. For all his talk about transparancy and serving the people, this thing looks like it's designed to loom over people rather than welcome them in. The corruption angle with the funds flowing to dark money networks is a whole other problem. It's almost like the building itself is a perfect metaphor for how the inspiring rhetoric didn't always match up with the actual governance.
