It's important to distinguish between just and unjust wars. The US entering WW2 is generally considered a just action, especially since the Axis powers attacked Pearl Harbour -- but before that, the USA was aiding Britain. And that war was a boost for the American economy in the end, and it inspired patriotism. It was a just war.

The Cold War, helping to achieve detente, was costly, but arguably justified to keep the USSR and China at bay. Many people like to criticize the US action in Vietnam, though its original intent was just, as with Korea, to stop the spread of global Communism. But they would have done better to focus on stopping Leftism at home, in retrospect, because the anti-war hippies have now grown up and sold out the West, benefiting Communist China in the process. Few people seem to grasp that we are in the midst of an asymmetric war with China and that Democrats are their minions in the USA (e.g., Act Blue donations to Kamala likely came from the CCP through third parties).

Iraq 1 and 2 seem unwarranted now, because they gained very little and cost a lot. Afghanistan as well. Though, would we feel differently if the USA had won and wiped out the Taliban? Ukraine seems like a lost cause, wasting far too much taxpayer money and wiping out a generation of Ukrainian men for few gains. A great tragedy that could have been avoided. Trump trying to end it is a good thing. Even a victory now would be Pyrrhic, but they are more likely to lose from the looks of it.

As for a war with Iran, which Bolton wants, I don't think it's as easy as lumping it in with Iraq or Afghanistan or Ukraine. Iran has sent sleeper terrorists into the USA over the southern border who will be activated if Israel falls. Israel is fighting for its life against the growth of Iran's nuclear capability. Iran is pure evil, funding several wars in the Middle East, and chanting death to America. Its leadership needs to be toppled. A war is not a good idea, as it would be too costly and would kill too many innocent people. Many Iranians want to be liberated, but they are up against the intangible power of Islamic jihad, which keeps the despots in power. The program of assassinating Iran's leadership and trying to stage a coup d'état is preferable. Cut off the head of the beast.

The USA should be involved with Israel in that project, and is, because Iran is a threat not only to Israel but also to the USA. Iran has already murdered many Americans. That having been said, the USA obviously should focus on healing internally and ridding itself of Leftism. Trump's win is a very positive step in the right direction. But if a war with Iran were to occur, I think it would fall into the just war category because they are truly wicked people, worse than the Nazis. They are Islamo-fascists and need to be kept down. It's not necessary to go to war to do that. Trump's policy in the Middle East is working. He supports Israel, opposes Iran and Hamas (which Iran funds), and keeps things diplomatic. He carries a big stick to maintain the Pax Americana.

If the USA withdrew from the Middle East entirely, as American isolationists seem to want, it would be a win for evil; it would be seen as weakness on the part of the USA, making it more vulnerable to terrorist attack. Like it or not, Israel serves as an American outpost to keep the Islamists at bay. It's better to deal with terrorists there than within domestic borders. As for the argument that it's prudent not to inflame them, that's naive: they are Islamists and are already inflamed. It's their religion to hate infidels. They just need to be sent to Allah with a bullet. But hopefully it can be done without having to go to full-scale war.

Right now, the greatest foreign enemies the USA has are Communist China and Iran. War is not good, but it's often not the West that starts it. Right now, it's a Cold War with them, but most Americans don't seem to know that, which is why it's asymmetric: they try to destabilize us, and we typically don't respond.
