I finally had a chance to watch the full Tucker Carlson-Ted Cruz smackdown and I have to admit, I was pretty shocked as he started out sounding reasonable - except when it came to anything about Israel and the Russians… Here are the full lowlights with receipts that someone has put together:

As for the more heavy stuff: Ted Cruz is a reallyyyyyy smart guy who I think was a championship debater when he was getting his Ivy League education BUT for him to not even know the population of the country he wants to go to war with was pretty shocking:

Ted also says we are “biblically commanded to support Israel” [which is news to me!], but did not know where in the Bible it says that and left it up to Tucker (of all people!) to name the specific Bible book and verse that might come from:

Let me be brutally honest here so I can be accused of antisemitism straight away: I am pretty shocked to discover from watching the interview just how much some fundamentalist evangelical Christians like Ted Crux (or more likely his supporters b/c as a politician, you can’t be sure he believes in anything other than getting re-elected and lining his own pocket…) seem to worship today’s Jews and Israel BUT today’s Jews and Bibi’s Israel are NOT the same Jews or “chosen people” and Israel or “chosen nation” from 3,000 years ago in whatever version of the Bible they are reading or interpreting!

Maybe the Orthodox and Ultra-Orthodox Jews or, as Roseanne Barr likes to say, “Jewry Jews” like herself who ACTUALLY PRACTICE Judaism and Jewish traditions (and are despised by secular Jews for doing so…) can be said to be the same people described in the Bible but I am not even sure of that either e.g. todays Romans and Greeks are not the same as the ancient ones…

Also, and I am not a theologian, but I thought that after Christ died, his followers became the new so-called “chosen people” (which does not mean you can go around persecuting any previous “chosen people” or any non-chosen people for that matter…).

But today that would include Roman Catholics, Orthodox Christians and people from all the various Protestant sects (+ the Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses) that some fundamentalist evangelicals believe, at best, are not real Christians and, at worse, are going to hell for not joining their specific Protestant sect to give money to it and their pastor/preacher etc….

Another Substacker who is more of an expert on theology also had this to say:

The passage Cruz invokes was spoken to Abram, personally, as part of God’s covenant with him and his descendants. It was not a blanket policy for Gentile nations in 2024. It certainly wasn’t a divine endorsement of whatever geopolitical entity calls itself “Israel” at any given point in history. The modern state of Israel, founded in 1948 by secular Zionists, many of them agnostic or atheist, is not a theocracy, not the Old Covenant nation, and not a valid fulfillment of biblical prophecy.

Yes, that is a real tweet from the Congressman for Florida’s 6th District who’s Jewish - not a fundamentalist evangelical Christian…:

This just shows you the COMPLETE ROT in the American political system where you have one faction of the Uniparty that only cares about fat black women, transgenders and illegal immigrants (preferably the MS-13 criminal kind) and another faction of the Uniparty that thinks American foreign policy must be determined by what’s in the Bible but can’t name the specific books or verses from it…

ALL THESE UNIPARTY POLITICIANS NEED TO GO because as with progressives, you are NOT going to be able to talk to or reason with certain fundamentalist evangelical Christians on Israel with the worst-case scenario for the rest of us:

I HOPE AND PRAY TO GOD that American-Israeli foreign policy also does not include rebuilding the temple so the Messiah can return as the Dome of the Rock is kind of in the way of that and the entire Islamic world would kind of have a fit with that getting demolished!
