It was clear that Dr. Hodgson was well-compensated during her big pharma career or had done very well with her investments when I interviewed her at her opulent home in a well-heeled Florida retirement community. It was also clear that she wanted to set the record straight concerning her role in developing the nDNA vaccine…
My mother was a nurse who had passed away from cancer when I was in elementary school. I vividly remember when she sat us children down to tell us that she was ill, but everything would turn out ok. We could trust science and medicine to cure her.
She did the treatments for almost two years. Never during those two years did she lose her faith in science and medicine. There were the good days or weeks, and then there were the bad days or weeks. But she always had hope, and so did the rest of us.
After she passed away, I knew that I wanted to become a doctor who did medical research. Maybe I could find a vaccine or a cure for the type of cancer that took the life of my mother. I went to medical school, joined the research lab at GroßPharma, and eventually worked my way up to become the head of their vaccine research program.
For many years, I enjoyed my work. I had my share of scientific and medical successes and failures. But for me, and although I was well paid, it was never about the money.
But then things began to change at GroßPharma when the Wall Street hedge fund people took over… [She sighs.]
And do you also mean people like Will Doors?
Yes – especially people like Will Doors and his Wall Street hedge fund buddies. [She frowns]
He was not even a scientist or a doctor, but he declared himself our Chief Ideas Man. And boy was he full of ideas about science, medicine, and the pharma business the first day he showed up!
We did have a CEO who had a solid medical and pharma industry background. However, he was more or less a figurehead for the SEC filings and outside investors.
It was Doors and his Wall Street hedge fund buddies who called all the shots. When they took majority control of GroßPharma, everything changed for the worst. [She pauses and frowns again.]
