The best were the "outdoor" restaurants in NYC that hundreds of dogs pissed on as they walked by and or all the dog shit all over the same sidewalks (that housed the outdoor seating) that people picked up but not thoroughly removed - but the very very best were the rats that inhabited all of them at night once they closed. Or the homeless people that sought refuge inside of them. I would take video's while totally laughing my ass off - I can think of few thing LESS hygienic than eating on the rat infested, dog shit and piss saturated laden streets of NYC! At least INSIDE they have to adhere to CODES! And yet people believed this was SAFER! Only in New Yawk folks only in New Yawk!

I loved those times because the narcissists were extremely easy to spot.

and the power tripping wankers LOL

Thank you for posting these. They must never be forgotten. They are history.

Covid stupidity will go down in history 😂

I had forgotten some of the insanity of those times. The outdoor/indoor restaurant tables were admittedly counter-intuitive but were the only options for dining out. Our jumbo sized governor loved the power the vid lock gave him and he abused it. He mandated us into segregated sheepdom. Thank you for this reminder of that tyranny.

Never. Again.

What's sad is that although it was all insane and very silly, it was also highly calculated and intelligent too. The sillier the rule/ costume/ etiquette the more it pushed the public out of their normal routines and even their normal consciousness and into completely unfamiliar territory.

It was all designed to make ordinary activities (shopping, eating out etc) a completely alien experience, as if it was the first day at a new job, or the first day at a new school. Because when we are in those unfamiliar (and stressful) situations we instinctively look for CUES on how to behave and what to do..... in other words, we try to CONFORM.

All those silly stickers to stand on and arrows to follow were a kind of mind control technology to turn people into compliant robots - which is what most people became.

Without all that DISRUPTION to our normal routines people would not have been so disorientated and so they would not have been so compliant either.

Obviously as 'health and safety' it was all completely ridiculous, but none of it had anything to do with health or safety. It was really all about putting everyone into a state of compliance/ conformity by making a thousand small - but totally unreasonable - demands of everyone every day. This is also how abusive partners (psychopaths) dominate their spouses.

The whole thing was operating at a level far below the intellect, which is why so many intelligent people fell for it (and why they still can't see it was all a scam). It tapped directly into our social / tribal hard wiring.

Check out the Asch Conformity experiment (there are plenty of videos). It was basically that on a gigantic scale.

This makes complete sense of the nonsense! My son told me to wait and see how the shots performed. I followed his advice but it was hard for me. I am, by nature, a get-along-gal so ‘swimming upstream’ was uncomfortable and I felt I was being less than honest with friends. Now, when I disclose I never got the shot, I get looks of surprise from those who thought they knew me 😄

My son, however, has always questioned authority and this time he was spot on. I got to experience being a rebel and I lived to tell about it! The next time I won’t need a push.

I felt the same wat about following rules because they are good and for a reason like for driving. However, I was always wanting to know why and suspicious. My mother would get mad at me and tell me I was negative when I would say a different reason for things, but it was not negative. It was questioning the reasons. As a child, I always asked her why. She always said "because said so." I trusted her, but hated that and needed to know her reasoning.

Now she says "everything is a conspiracy" to you and my answer is "Yes pretty much everything is."

there are some really hilarious youtube films from France, where people are outside with mask on, go in the restaurant, then on the terrace, take mask off, eat, then put mask back on to go outside. I hope they all had a white rectangle on their faces where the mask was! How can people be this stupid?

My father kept going with your exact question, Ingrid. He would ponder in the face of the stunning stupidity of people, "How can people be this stupid...'and still live?'"

God rest his soul. I can only imagine his reaction to this display of stupidity and cowardice.

I took a picture of a traffic sign in Southern California that flashed “OC BEACHES CLOSED” to remind me that the police were arresting solo surfers out alone in the ocean.

While things weren't quite so ridiculous where I am, if they try anything like that again I'm going full-on vigilante. They radicalized me.

the longer ago it is, the more hilarious! thankfully I did not see the masker at the store this morning. I am going to remember to go a half hour later to escape her.

My doctor still wears a mask, nor just at her office but in public. Coincidentally, her kids and my kids go to the same school and our kids were in the spelling bee so there she was. The only person in the room with a mask on. I couldn’t stop staring at her as this surprised me. She’s only been my doc for a couple of years but I’ve never seen her face.

I would be wondering what other bits of “science” she believes that are total absurdity. I wouldn’t trust her with my life. Does she abuse her children as well by forcing them to wear masks?

Expand full comment

OMG I don't think I could keep a straight face. I think I would not go there, even if she were the last doc around. I tried a new one here in town, and she wore a mask and marked my page as gender unknown - that will be my first and last visit!

Yeah. I might have to find a mask free doc. But she doesn’t push me on the vaxx. In fact, she ignores that it exists-doesn’t bring it up at all. And she seems to know I’m female. I’d call that a win. Happy Saturday!

It was truly peak retardation but still to this day many are continuing the curve and many more are pretending that their behavior wasn’t retarded, or are oblivious to their previous retardation.

‘Retarded’ is clearly an appropriate term in this case.

Thanks for the memories! A great compilation, but my absolute favorite was missing. It's the photo of "dancing" at the prom. The couples stand back to back, with their arms entwined behind them at the the elbows. They look like they are trying to throw each other over their heads.
