since I left Belgium, 18 years ago, you have to ask the govt permission to change floors in your house, they come and inspect your electric wiring, (and you will have to renew it of course), they check your heating installation, your soil, and if you want to update your house, it is cheaper to tear it down and build anew. (I know for sure because dad just sold the house). When kid, you needed to pay tax on having a dog, a bicycle, and tax on clean water AND on dirty water ! Hush the US govt might see this.
