To be fair, with few exceptions, Team R was all in for the so-called "Patriot Act" when Bush 2.0 was in office.

European born, I vaguely remember the Kennedy murder. A large article in the 80s or so, already told truth about it. I suppose most Americans knew or suspected this. I think most people know or subconciously know, that they are living in the mouth of the lion. And may be it is the safest place to be! As to the only in America meme, several other countries did not use any of the preventive meds, Belgium, Netherlands, I doubt Germany, Czech republic did for a very short time but then said it did not work (they tried on terminally illl patients in one hospital). So we are not as alone as the meme suggests.

The Kennedy murder happened when I was 4. It is the first news event I remember.

I was 6. I have few memories from before it, but I remember that very well, especially the little boy saluting. His son for sure.

Yes; that was Jon-Jon Kennedy, whose haircut became very popular for the next year or so. I had one. Looked kind of like Moe Howard. Before that I had a crewcut. I have had an interest in the lives of famous people around our age, and I learned that the JFK murder happened on Jamie Lee Curtis's 5th birthday. So I picture the following: the daughter of a very rich, famous movie star turns 5. There's a huge backyard, with a tent, a clown/magician, cake, ice cream, and maybe a pony for all the little rich girls to ride. But the girls, while having a good time, don't quite understand why the adults are acting depressed.
