I have noticed that the people who most often invoke the name of Martin Luther King are also the most likely to judge people by the color of their skin. Anybody who supports affirmative action rejects MLK’s message because affirmative action REQUIRES employers to judge job applicants by skin color.

I had to join the Army to meet people that hated because of skin color. Threats of violence against me because of skin color were not uncommon, unavoidable and, on occasions, when I was in charge of security in a given zone. It didn't overwhelm those being treated as such but, for many, was their first exposure to racism.

It had never occurred to me that I would be treated a certain way due to color of skin. I think Martin Luther King was addressing us all, black and white, about what matters: quality of character.

White people seem to understand the idea of evaluating a person before making a judgment to a greater degree than would be apparent from crime stats regarding 'race-of-offender'.
