Spread the light by spreading memes, sincerest form of flattery (meme thief) and more memes about memers resisting with memes as the jury for the “election interference by meme” trial deadlocks!
you know in the baroque period it was considered an honour if your music was copied by a famous composer. We would probably not have any Vivaldi music, if it were not for Bach, who used Vivaldi pieces and rewrote them. Plagiate laws are infact the wrong way up!
ps glad you see it that way too, because I copied several of yours and sent them to the appropriate people !
LOL I like that last part. There are a few songs I cannot hear by anyone but the original artist. I heard lots of people trying Dolly Parton. Not really fond of her, but her songs by others are usually lots worse!
Indeed ! I remember both. And there was that lambada song, very popular in Europe, based on a south American tune. In fact if musicians could be proud instead of mortified it would be much better! There is nothing new under the sun, and if your subconscious remembers a strip of music you heard somewhere and you use it, what harm has been done!
that's what I would say. music should be free, a melody, a set of notes, they're out there, ready to be picked up and made into a composition. oh well, apparently not everybody agrees with that (which has to do with making money off of it, of course).
A cousin-in-law of mine, a very strange man but a talented guitarist, has a sideline playing in a band in bars. He told me of the "music mafia" which holds patents on all the most popular, timeless songs, so his band can't play them without paying a royalty. A royalty far exceeding their paltry pay. I was reminded of that conversation on a Letterman episode in which Dave asked Paul to play some Eagles number, and Paul said it would cost them, and Dave asked how much, and a network lawyer came out and said 10 grand! So Dave asked if 100 audience members would contribute $100 each. No takers, nor did he expect any. Just had to make a joke of it. What a stupid rule!
strange but true: Happy Birthday is a copyrighted song, as are Yesterday; Pretty Woman; Stand By Me; Every Breath You Take; some of the Eisler Brothers' songs; Dreaming Of A White Christmas.
say HI to your cousin, musicians deserve our every sympathy!
As always, a stellar collection! Many thanks.
😂🤣 some of the best yet! And I stole a meme about stealing memes just yesterday...

All musicians are inspired by other musicians. Led Zeppelin was sued for it.
Immitation is the sincerest form of flattery.... and practically every good song gets sung by multiple artists - for better or for worst....

very true.
George Harrison as well (My Sweet Lord).
He sure didn't come up with "Hare Rama, Krishna, Krishna, Hallelujah!" on his own!
LOL

I preferred Nicolette Larson's "Every Breath You Take" to Sumner's. Who has the copyright?
Bing must be rolling in his grave!
so true ! I wonder how they do that with karaoke, if these people have to pay up for their tunes too. Money is the devil of the world.
perhaps karaoke does not infringe upon copyright (since it's not in public and not for money)?
😂 I love this stack!
The deplorable lady is got a case??
