One possible reason he suggested was to deflect from another important story which is that a whistleblower from ABC revealed that there was collusion between the Harris team and ABC in the debates with all kinds of agreements like heavily fact-checking Trump while not fact checking Harris, no questions about covering up for Biden's dementia, no questions about her brother in law Tony West, who is on the list for Attny Gen in her administration who also was alleged to have helped embezzle Billions of taxpayer dollars, no questions about her record as Attny Gen of CA and she also received sample questions to prepare answers for the debate which Trump obviously didn't get. The whistleblower wrote the notarized affidavits BEFORE the debates occurred so he didn't just make it up afterwards.
